What can I do before and after the race in Virginia Beach?

Where can we park for the races?
We encourage you to arrive early and bring cash for parking – Many lots will only accept cash on race day!
The Chartway Virginia Beach 10 Miler starts at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on 19th Street. There will be limited parking at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. We encourage you to arrive early since parking can fill up quickly. We will provide a parking map closer to the event.
What are the event dates and start times?
September 2, 2023- 5K starts at 7:30
September 3, 2023- 10 Miler starts at 7:30
What will the weather be like in September in Virginia Beach?
The average high is 80 degrees and the average low is 65 degrees in September.
What time should I arrive on race day?
We encourage all participants and spectators to arrive prior to 6:30am to ensure parking availability and allow for adequate time to drop off bags, warm up, and get in the start corrals.
Registration
What is included with my entry fee?
Can I defer my entry in 2023 if I am selected in the lottery?
Yes- for a fee, you can defer your entry from 2023 into 2024 if you are selected in the 2023 lottery.
Will I receive a refund if I cannot attend?
J&A Racing does not process refunds. NO EXCEPTIONS.
What if I can’t make it?

Can someone else run with my race bib?
For the safety and security of all our runners, people are not permitted to run with someone else’s race bib. To learn how to officially transfer your bib, click here (add link)
When will I be charged the registration fee?
Registrants will be charged the registration fee after the lottery selections are made.
When will I be notified about if I was accepted into the 10 Miler?
Each registrant will receive an email confirming their lottery application was received. Once the lottery closes, each registrant will either receive an application confirmation email with a payment receipt or an application denied email with no payment data. Applicants that are not selected are still able to register for the Live the Life Challenge or the 5K ahead of sell out.
Are all distances included in the lottery?
Only the 10 Miler distance is included in the lottery. The Live the Life Challenge (10 Miler and 5K) and the 5K will open to the public for general registration on April 3 (confirmed 2023 Shamrock registrants will be able to register for the Live the Life Challenge and 5K in addition to the 10 Miler beginning March 28).
I am registering my whole family for the lottery. Does that mean that we will all be accepted (or rejected) together?
You can only register as an individual for the 10 Miler. If you would like to run with friends or family, they will all need to register independently for the lottery. Please note there is no guarantee that everyone will get into the event, as it is done on an individual registration level.
When will registration open for the Chartway Virginia Beach 10 Miler?
Registration for the 2023 Chartway Virginia Beach 10 Miler lottery will follow the schedule below-.
- March 28-31- Priority registration will open for verified 2023 Shamrock Registrants. (Anyone who attempts registration during this time and is not able to be verified as a 2023 Shamrock registrant, will automatically be entered into the general lottery that opens April 3)
- April 3-17- Lottery registration opens for the general public (limited to 7500 registrants).
- April 18-21- Registrants will be notified about their acceptance or denial into the 10 Miler
- April 24- Registration will open to the public (unless sell out occurs)
Packet Pickup
Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
Yes. If you are unable to pick up your own race packet, you may authorize another person to pick up your packet/bib number. The authorized individual MUST have their own photo ID, a signed and printed authorization form (or uploaded to your Haku account), and a copy of the participant’s photo ID. The signed authorization form MUST be printed or uploaded to your Haku account- we will NOT accept any authorization via phone, text message, or any other electronic device. The copy of the photo ID may be via text, email, or photo copy. If the authorized individual is missing any of these items, we will not release the packet/bib number, NO EXCEPTIONS. Can I have my packet mailed to me?
If you cannot pick up your packet during the Expo hours and do not have someone else that can pick it up for you, for a fee of $30, we can mail you your packet. The packet mailing option will close on August 11, at 11:59PM. Packets will be mailed out the week of August 14, 2023.

Race Information
Are there time limits?
Walkers are welcome in all the races.
5K Cutoff: 1.5 hours from the start of the last corral
10 Miler: 3.5 hours from the start of the last corral
Are baby joggers, strollers or pets allowed?
Baby Joggers/Strollers
Yes, baby joggers and strollers are allowed. You must include your child’s information during your registration (there is no additional charge). If you did not include your child during registration, please visit the Help Desk at Packet Pickup to add your child.
Baby joggers and strollers are not allowed in corrals 1-3, so you must be in corral 4 or higher and seed yourself at the back of your assigned corral. It is your responsibility to make sure your baby jogger/stroller does not impede other runners, and you must take extra precaution to ensure your safety, your child’s safety, and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any participant from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.
Pets – Pets are not permitted in any of the J&A Racing events.
Are headphones allowed during the race?
Headphones are allowed; however, we strongly encourage participants to abstain from using headphones during this race.
Will there be hydration and energy gels on the course?
Nuun Hydration will be available on course at each aid station for the 5K & 10 Miler
Gels will be available on the 10 Miler course
We encourage you to train with these brands before the race if you plan on using the drinks and gels on the course.
Will there be porta potties on the course?
Absolutely! Porta potties will be located at the Start area, Finish area and at water stops along the course.
Is there a Dry Bag Check?
Yes. You must use the clear bag you receive at packet pick-up. For security reasons, no other bags will be accepted. You must use a permanent marker to write your bib number on your dry bag.
Where will my results be posted?
You can look up your results HERE(link to Results) after the race.
Will there be an awards ceremony? What are the award categories?
No. There will not be an awards ceremony at the post-race party.
Do I need my ID for the post-race celebration?
Yes, you will need your ID, no matter your age, to be given an authorized wristband. Your race bib will serve as your ticket for the beer and food at the post-race celebration.
Will spectators be allowed to view the finish?
Yes, there will be plenty of space to view your runner finish. However, due to the size of the event, we suggest arriving to the finish line early to ensure a good spot. We also invite you to stay and take part in the post-race party.
